In an electrifying display of cricket prowess, Team India showcased their dominance with a commanding 200-run victory over West Indies in the third ODI, clinching the series 2-1. Despite the impressive result, questions regarding the team combination ahead of the World Cup lingered, leaving some uncertainties in the air.

Batting first, India set a massive total of 351 runs, thanks to stellar performances from Shubman Gill (85 off 92 balls) and an in-form Ishan Kishan (77 off 64 balls), who put up a sensational opening stand of 143 runs. Sanju Samson’s brilliant knock of 51 off 41 balls and skipper Hardik Pandya’s explosive 70 not out off 52 balls further bolstered the Indian total.

In response, the West Indies batting line-up crumbled under India’s quality seam bowling during the first Powerplay. Mukesh Kumar’s remarkable three-wicket burst dealt a significant blow to West Indies’ chances, resulting in their dismissal for 151 runs in just 35.3 overs.

Despite the victory, concerns remained for India, particularly regarding the batting positions and player roles. While Kishan’s impressive performances bode well for his chances in the upcoming Asia Cup, the question of his batting position arises if KL Rahul isn’t available for the tournament. The prospect of moving Rohit Sharma from his top-order position to accommodate Kishan seems unlikely.

Additionally, Samson showcased his talent with an entertaining innings that thrilled millions of fans on social media. However, his recurring issue of failing to convert half-centuries into bigger scores poses a challenge in the middle-order batting lineup.

The bowling department also faced scrutiny, particularly the omission of Yuzvendra Chahal throughout the series. With the ever-reliable Ravindra Jadeja a regular in the playing XI, the selection of Axar Patel remains uncertain. Meanwhile, Mukesh Kumar’s impressive performances may secure him a spot among the five stand-bys, provided the experienced quartet of Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Shami, Mohammed Siraj, and Shardul Thakur is picked.

With only nine matches remaining (if they reach the Asia Cup final) before the World Cup, India will need to make strategic decisions to solidify their squad and find the perfect balance for the ultimate cricketing event.

Brief Scores: India: 351/5 in 50 overs (Ishan Kishan 77, Shubman Gill 85, Sanju Samson 51; Romario Shepherd 2/73). West Indies: 151 all out in 35.3 overs (Alick Athanaze 32; Mukesh Kumar 3/30, Shardul Thakur 4/37).
