On Tuesday, China’s foreign ministry confirmed that an agreement has been reached with India to end the standoff in eastern Ladakh. “Recently, China and India have kept close communication on border-related issues through diplomatic and military channels. Both sides have now reached a solution, which China views positively. Moving forward, China will work with India to implement this solution,” said Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson Lin Jian.
This follows New Delhi’s statement on Monday that both countries have agreed on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control, the de facto border. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri noted that discussions with Chinese counterparts through WMCC and military-level meetings have previously resolved standoffs at various points. “Recent talks over the last several weeks have led to an agreement on patrolling arrangements along the Line of Actual Control, paving the way for disengagement and a resolution of the issues that arose in 2020,” Misri added.
