China Offers Hungary Unprecedented Support Regarding Security Concerns
China has offered out-of-the-norm support to Hungary amidst growing security concerns.

China and Hungary have been strategic partners for a long time. Thus, China offered support to Hungary amidst the growing security threats. This support goes beyond the previously decided trade and investment relations. The Chinese supported Hungarian PM Viktor Orban during a rare state visit. The Chinese support will weaken NATO and its network in Europe.
Chinese Public Security Minister Wang Xiaohong told PM Orban that China hopes to strengthen law enforcement and security ties between the two countries. China and Hungary have had diplomatic relations for the past 75 years.
During a visit to Budapest, Wang commented that these new efforts should highlight the bilateral relations of the two nations. They will also help the two countries counter terrorism and transnational crimes.
The support will also allow Hungary to develop security and law enforcement. The Belt and Road initiative undertaken by President Xi Jinping will allow China to connect with the world through trade and infrastructure.
Hungarian Interior Minister Sandor Pinter signed documents along with Wang detailing their plan for enhancing domestic security.
Hungary, a Russian ally, has worked hard to reduce its dependence on Western countries. The Chinese assurance comes at a perfect time, allowing Hungary to resist pressure to expand the NATO network in Europe.
Hungary is the only member of NATO that has not approved Sweden’s application to join the bloc.
China has been critical of NATO for the past year. NATO commented that Beijing challenged its members’ interests with ambitious and coercive policies.
China claims that NATO poses a grave threat to global security. The new agreement is a diplomatic win for China against the European Union. The bloc has been considering its ties with the second-largest economy over human rights, trade differences, and the Russia-Ukraine war. Hungary and China’s alliance has affected the EU’s collective front.
On several occasions, Hungary has not taken a stand or opposed the European Union’s decisions regarding China. They did not align themselves with criticism against China and welcomed Chinese investments. Such actions were a violation of the bloc’s stance against China.
Huawei Technologies established its largest logistics and manufacturing base outside of China in Hungary. The European Commission issued several warnings stating that telecom conglomerates posed a risk to EU security.
The Chinese carmaker BYD will establish its first European factory in Hungary.
