Chennai: The Egmore all-women police have arrested a female college student in Chennai for her role in the rape of a mentally unstable classmate, who was also her friend. The accused allegedly introduced her 21-year-old friend to a male college student, Suresh, aged 19, who raped the survivor and later introduced her to others, including a schoolboy, who also sexually assaulted her on multiple occasions.
The police tracked down the female friend, who had been absconding, and remanded her to judicial custody on Tuesday. According to the police, the survivor’s female friend initially introduced her to Suresh, a student at another city college. Suresh repeatedly raped the survivor and subsequently introduced her to some of his acquaintances, who also raped her.
The case was registered following a complaint by the survivor’s father. So far, nine individuals, including Suresh and the schoolboy, have been arrested in connection with the case.
