CEO Accused of Son’s Death: Goa Police Suspect High Cough Syrup Dosage Before Smothering
The Bengaluru-based tech startup CEO, Suchana Seth, has been arrested by Karnataka police for allegedly smothering her 4-year-old son and attempting to flee by concealing his body in a suitcase. Following her arrest, Goa police are investigating the possibility of Seth administering a “heavy dosage” of cough syrup to her son before the incident.
Sources revealed that two empty cough syrup bottles were found at the service apartment in Hotel Sol Banyan Grande in North Goa’s Candolim, where Seth, 39, had checked in on January 6. She was arrested in Karnataka’s Chitradurga district while attempting to escape in a cab with her son’s body stuffed in a suitcase.
An investigating police officer stated, “Two bottles of cough syrup, one large and one small, have been recovered from the site. She had one cough syrup with her, while she called and ordered the other from the reception, claiming to have a sore throat.”
A government hospital doctor, Dr. Kumar Naik, who conducted the post-mortem on the child, reported, “The child was killed over 36 hours earlier. He was smothered or strangled. There are no wounds or signs of struggle, suggesting the use of a pillow or wire.” Corroborating this, a Goa police officer mentioned, “The autopsy indicated no signs of struggle. We’re investigating if the child was sedated with a heavy dose of cough syrup. Hotel staff has also confirmed her request for one bottle of cough syrup.”
North Goa SP Nidhin Valsan said that the initial investigation revealed that Suchana from West Bengal married a Kerala native Venkat Raman in 2010. Their son was born nine years later, and the couple separated in 2020. The divorce proceedings are in the final stage, and after talking to Suchana, it has come to light that there was some court order she was unhappy with, and the police are looking up the court order.
Seth has so far maintained that she didn’t kill her son and that he died suddenly after which she got scared and sat beside his body. Seth has made claims that her son died amidst his sleep. Goa police are likely to recreate the crime scene on Wednesday to ascertain the child’s death.
