Amid the ongoing controversy over allegations of “animal fat” in the laddus served as prasadam at the Tirupati temple in Andhra Pradesh, the Center has requested a report from the state government. Union Food Minister Pralhad Joshi has also called for an investigation, as concerns have grown among some devotees.

The issue surfaced on Wednesday when Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu accused his successor, Jagan Mohan Reddy, of permitting the use of substandard ingredients, including animal fat, in the laddus.

The Telugu Desam Party (TDP) claimed the presence of “beef tallow,” “lard” (pig fat), and fish oil in the ghee used for making the laddus. The following day, TDP released a lab report from the National Dairy Development Board (NDDB) in Gujarat, allegedly confirming the presence of animal fat in the ghee samples provided by the Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams, the governing body of the Sri Venkateswara Swamy temple.

Naidu further alleged that the previous administration purchased low-quality ghee at lower prices, compromising the quality of the laddu and tarnishing the sacred temple’s reputation. In response, Reddy denied the claims, calling them a distraction.
