New Delhi: A CCTV recording has surfaced showing a heated argument between Puneet Khurana, a 40-year-old businessman from Delhi, and his wife at their Model Town home. In the footage, the woman is seen yelling and verbally abusing Khurana over undisclosed matters. Just days later, Khurana was found dead in his bedroom, with police suspecting suicide.
Khurana, who owned a bakery in Kalyan Vihar, had recorded a 59-minute video alleging harassment by his wife and in-laws. In the video, he claimed he was being coerced into paying an additional ₹10 lakh beyond their mutually agreed divorce settlement, an amount he stated was beyond his financial capacity.
The CCTV footage supports claims of tension between the couple. Khurana’s family has accused his wife and her relatives of mentally harassing him, which they believe drove him to take the drastic step. “She, her sister, and her parents tormented him,” said Khurana’s sister. His mother added, “We want justice for him.” The family disclosed that Khurana’s video provides a detailed account of the alleged abuse, including disputes over financial and business matters.
The recorded video, now in police custody, outlines the events leading to his death and his accusations against his wife and in-laws.
Khurana and his wife, married since 2016, had filed for mutual divorce six months ago due to irreconcilable differences. Sources revealed that arguments over property and financial settlements were frequent and intense.
An audio recording of a conversation between the couple has also emerged, allegedly capturing the wife accusing Khurana of defamation and demanding money. Additionally, an Instagram post shared by Khurana’s wife accused him of “toxicity and narcissistic abuse.” The post was deleted shortly after being uploaded, raising questions about its timing and intent. Efforts to reach her for clarification have been unsuccessful.
Police are now analysing the CCTV footage, Khurana’s video, and other evidence provided by his family. An ACP-level officer is overseeing the investigation. Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northwest) Bhisham Singh confirmed that statements from both families are being recorded, and forensic analysis of Khurana’s phone is ongoing.
Meanwhile, the wife and her family have filed counter-allegations, claiming harassment by Khurana’s relatives. “Both sides have made serious accusations. We are thoroughly investigating all angles,” said a senior officer.
