The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) on Monday dismissed claims of a 2025 board exam paper leak, calling them “baseless” and aimed at creating unnecessary panic among students and parents. CBSE is conducting Class 10 and 12 final exams for approximately 44 lakh students from 8,000 schools in India and abroad. The exams, which began on February 15, will continue until April 4.
“The board has implemented extensive measures to ensure the fair and smooth conduct of examinations. However, it has come to our attention that certain individuals are spreading false rumours on social media platforms such as YouTube, Facebook, and ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), falsely claiming access to exam papers,” CBSE stated. The board emphasised that it is actively monitoring the situation and taking strict action against those spreading misinformation.
“CBSE is working closely with law enforcement agencies to identify and prosecute such offenders. Students involved in such activities will face consequences under CBSE’s Unfair Means rules and relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC),” the statement read. According to CBSE’s rules, sharing or uploading exam-related content on social media is a serious violation. If proven guilty, students could have their current exams and those of the next three years for all subjects canceled. In a recent notification, the board urged parents to guide their children against believing or engaging with unverified information, as it disrupts the examination process.
CBSE also advised students, parents, and schools to rely only on official communications available on its website (www.cbse.gov.in) and verified public channels for accurate updates. “The public is urged to remain cautious of unverified news during the ongoing exams. CBSE will take legal action against anyone found responsible for spreading misinformation to maintain the integrity of the examination process,” the board added.
The CBSE board exams began on February 15, with over 23 lakh students appearing on the first day. On February 17, Class 12 students took the Physical Education exam, while Class 10 students wrote papers for Hindustani Music, Rai, Gurung, Tamang, Sherpa, Elements of Bookkeeping & Accountancy, and Physical Activity Trainer.
The exams are being conducted under strict security measures, including CCTV surveillance, a mandatory dress code, and clear instructions for students on permitted and prohibited items, as well as rules regarding Unfair Means (UFM) and associated penalties.
