New Delhi: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) informed a special court in New Delhi that K Kavitha, a leader of the BRS party and accused in the Delhi excise policy case, allegedly pressured Aurobindo Pharma’s promoter, Sharath Chandra Reddy, to pay ₹25 crore to the Aam Aadmi Party for five retail zones in the national capital.

The CBI sought her custody, which the court granted until April 15. Kavitha is accused of threatening Reddy’s business if he doesn’t comply. Reddy, also a co-accused being investigated by the Enforcement Directorate, has turned approver. The CBI alleges that Kavitha’s associates coordinated payments to the Aam Aadmi Party and inserted provisions in the policy that favoured them.

Kavitha has been arrested by both the Enforcement Directorate and the CBI, and the agencies claim she did not cooperate with their inquiries. Additionally, the CBI alleges that Kavitha forced Reddy into a land deal and demanded payments for AAP, threatening harm to his business if he refused.

AAP has accused Reddy’s firm of funding the BJP through electoral bonds, while Delhi’s chief minister and other leaders face charges linked to the excise policy case. The defence minister dismissed accusations of agency misuse, questioning why relief wasn’t provided by the courts in Kejriwal’s case.
