After wild accusations flying throughout the G20 Summit, hosted by India in the previous month, the diplomatic ties between Canada and India have been strained, especially after Canadian Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, made accusations against New Delhi of being involved in the killing of Hardeep Singh Nijjar, a Sikh leader in Surrey in June of this year. Now, various government agencies in Canada have reported cyberattacks from India.

As stated by various newspapers in Canada, the hacking group calling itself Indian Cyber Force dispersed screenshots of the Canadian military website being broken into and taken down on social media apps like Telegram and X (formerly known as Twitter) and warned of the transgression being active for 2 hours. However, the matter was resolved in a couple of hours.

The statement further stated that the Communications Security Establishment, Canada’s intelligence agency, had previously informed IT management of a surge in cyberattacks.

Whereas, the intelligence agency recalled these attacks as mere “nuisances” and further added that several government institutes had been attacked but the systems in the federal agencies worked as usual with no hindrance.

Military spokeswoman, Andree-Anne Poulin, made a statement saying, “We have no indication of broader impacts to our systems.”

The Canadian defense minister, Bill Blair, called it a distributed denial-of-service (DDoS) attack when several bots attack websites by visiting them repeatedly.

On the 28th of September, the House of Commons website also underwent a DDoS attack. The House of Commons spokeswoman, Amelie Crosson, made various statements addressing the matter, and one of them stated that the impeccable HoC IT support team, joined by their partners, has placed alleviated steps and reinstated the services and is continuously keeping track of further attacks.
