Recently, Jungkook had a livestream on his Weverse account on December 8 to bid farewell to his fans before his mandatory military enlistment. In the livestream, he was seen walking outside while talking to ARMY, making them feel like they were on a video call with a friend. When a fan asked about his whereabouts, Jungkook replied that he was on his way back home from the gym after a workout. However, what caught the attention of everyone the most was his mention of his stalkers.
While strolling outside, the idol took a moment to warn the ‘sasaeng fans’ for intruding on his personal space. The term “sasaeng fan” in Korean translates to individuals who are excessively obsessed with their favourite celebrity and go to the length of stalking them. They are universally disliked due to their potential to cause harm to celebrities. In this live, Jungkook expressed his displeasure over Sasaeng fans invading his privacy. He requested that such fans not wait for him outside his home or gym. He stated that “There are sasaengs in front of my house these days still” and urged them to refrain from such behavior. He went on to express his resentment by stating, “don’t cross the line.”
Encounters with stalkers are not uncommon for BTS; however, it’s only in recent months that they have publicly started addressing this situation. Jungkook had previously also issued a warning on his Weverse account after someone went to the extent of ordering food at his address without his consent. He wrote, “Please don’t send delivery food to my house, I’m not going to eat it anyway. I’m thankful for the thought, but I can eat well on my own. So take care of your own meals, I beg you. If you send it one more time, I will check the receipt order number and take action. So stop it.”
However, after talking about Sasengs, Jungkook didn’t forget to have fun with ARMY. He shared with his fans the conversation he had with Jin. He went on to explain that, as his enlistment was approaching, he couldn’t afford to be reckless and drink anymore. So instead, he is exercising regularly to remain fit. As he was taking a stroll around the neighbourhood, he joked about his poor sense of direction, because of which he doesn’t go too far. He also answered fans’ questions and sang and performed songs by his fellow members live for his fans. He showed off his housekeeping skills before ARMY. Another thing that became the talk of this live was him partly revealing his newly shaved head for enlistment at the insistence of his fans. Later, he even left fans hopeful when he said that he might be able to do one more livestream before he leaves for the army.
Soon after the livestream ended, fans went to social media to express their thoughts. Fans expressed their anger over the fact that the singer is still being harassed by Sasaengs despite him having previously issued a warning. Many were saddened by his leaving but were hopeful that their favourite idol would soon return to them. Many fans felt proud of Jungkook for standing up for himself. They expressed their anger over this situation and concern for his safety.
