Senior BJP politician BS Yediyurappa may be detained in connection with the POCSO case, according to Karnataka Home Minister G Parameshwara, who added that the state’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) will make that determination.

The former chief minister is the target of a Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) complaint that claims he sexually assaulted a 17-year-old girl.

Yediyurappa filed an anticipatory bail request in the Karnataka High Court in the meantime, anticipating arrest. The case has been scheduled for a hearing by the court for tomorrow.

“Law is equal for everyone,” stated Karnataka Health Minister Dinesh Gundu Rao in reference to the case. Regardless of what transpired in that situation, the police will, as always, follow the law. He continued, saying that he would not declare him guilty or not. Everyone is treated equally under the law. Nobody is above the law.

Yediyurappa was called by the CID on Wednesday to come in for questioning in relation to the sexual harassment case. In response to the CID’s notice, Yediyurappa said he would be cooperative and would show up for questioning on June 17. He also mentioned his visit to Delhi.

On March 14, the mother of the girl filed a complaint at the Sadashivanagar police station against Yediyurappa. One of the most important BJP politicians was accused by the police under the POCSO Act and IPC Section 354A (sexual harassment) based on the accusation.

The mother claimed that on February 2 of this year, while they were visiting a top BJP representative to get assistance with an issue involving cheating, the incident took place.

Yediyurappa, however, has denied all these accusations and referred to them as “baseless.” The eighty-year-old BJP leader held the position of Chief Minister of Karnataka on multiple occasions: from 2008 to 2011, for a brief period in May 2018, and lastly from 2019 to 2021. In 2021, he submitted his resignation following weeks of conjecture and uncertainty.

Basavaraj Somappa Bommai of the Bharatiya Janata Party succeeded Mr. BS Yediyurappa. He became the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka. Bommai held the role of CM between July 2021 and May 2023. Bommai has been declared by the BJP as its contender for the Haveri seat in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
