A full emergency was declared at Thiruvananthapuram airport on Thursday after a bomb threat was reported on an Air India flight arriving from Mumbai. The flight landed around 8 a.m. and was directed to an isolation bay, where passengers were safely evacuated by 8:44 a.m. The pilot reported the threat at around 7:30 a.m. as the aircraft approached Thiruvananthapuram. There were 135 passengers on board, and further details on the origin of the threat are still awaited, according to PTI. The airport declared a full emergency at 7:36 a.m., but there has been no impact on life or airport operations, which continue as normal.
An Air India spokesperson, quoted by ANI, stated that a specific security alert was detected during the flight from Mumbai to Thiruvananthapuram on August 22. The aircraft landed safely and was parked in a remote bay for mandatory security checks, with all passengers and crew disembarking safely. This incident follows a recent trend of hoax bomb threats.
On June 17, a 13-year-old boy was detained for sending a false bomb threat email to Delhi Airport, leading to an emergency and heightened security at Indira Gandhi International Airport. Similar hoax threats have targeted airports and hospitals across India, causing disruptions and prompting extensive anti-sabotage checks. The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) has proposed a five-year flying ban for those found guilty of making such threats.
