A senior police officer stated that the incident occurred after a heated altercation during Sayyad Badshah’s Urus celebration on Saturday evening. The accused, reportedly intoxicated, got into a dispute and allegedly threatened to destroy the mosque.

A moderate-intensity explosion caused by gelatin sticks damaged the interior of a mosque in Ardha Masla village, Georai tehsil, Beed district, around 2:30 am on Sunday. Police have arrested two suspects and detained two others in connection with the incident.

The arrested individuals, Vijay Rama Gavhane (22) and Shriram Ashok Sagade (24), are residents of Ardha Masla village and work in the well-digging business, which often involves controlled blasting using gelatin sticks. Authorities suspect that the explosives used in the incident were originally procured for their work. The explosion occurred at Mecca Mosque, located near Sayyad Badshah Dargah, which had recently undergone restoration. While no casualties were reported, the blast caused cracks in the mosque’s flooring and structural damage, police confirmed.

Speaking in Nagpur during an event attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis acknowledged the incident and confirmed that authorities are investigating those responsible. A team of Beed police, along with bomb detection and forensic experts, arrived at the scene shortly after the explosion. Special Inspector General of Police, Sambhajinagar Division, Virendra Mishra, visited the site, while Superintendent of Police Navneet Kanwat led the investigation. “We received a call from the village sarpanch about the blast. Our teams reached the spot within 20 minutes, and by 6 am, both accused were detained and subsequently arrested,” Kanwat stated.

A case has been registered at Talwada police station under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosive Substances Act, 1908. According to a senior police officer, the explosion followed a heated argument during Sayyad Badshah’s Urus celebration on Saturday evening, where people from different communities participated in a procession. The accused, reportedly intoxicated, engaged in a dispute and allegedly threatened to demolish the mosque. Later that night, they camped in a field before entering the mosque premises around 2 am and triggering the explosion. Witnesses identified them as they fled the scene, leading to their swift arrest.

Rahesd Ali Hussain Sayyad (69), the complainant and a resident of Ardha Masla, recounted hearing the explosion. “When we rushed to the site, we saw the sitting arrangements, ceiling fans, doors, windows, books, flooring, and walls damaged,” he said. Another villager, Sayyad Usman, reportedly saw Gavhane and Sagade fleeing the scene. Gavhane, who lives next to the mosque, was previously employed as a driver and has a past police record for carrying illegal weapons. The mosque’s caretaker, Sayyad Shammu, also confirmed that the duo had issued threats a day before the incident.
