Union Home Minister Amit Shah announced that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will implement the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) in Jharkhand and expel “Bangladeshi infiltrators” if elected, as part of the party’s assembly election manifesto released on Sunday. He assured, however, that the tribal communities would be excluded from the UCC’s scope, emphasizing that their identity and heritage would be safeguarded. “Hemant Babu, the Uniform Civil Code will definitely be introduced in Jharkhand, but the tribal communities will remain unaffected by this code,” Shah stated. The BJP also pledged to reclaim lands occupied by “infiltrators” and return them to tribal communities.

Shah further criticized Chief Minister Hemant Soren, asserting that the BJP would address women’s safety by recovering land taken from women and promising ₹2,100 per month for every woman in the state. He also pledged free LPG cylinders for women during Diwali and Raksha Bandhan and promised to provide 500,000 jobs for Jharkhand’s youth.

Under the ‘Gogo Didi scheme,’ women would receive ₹2,100 monthly, with LPG cylinders priced at ₹500 on festivals, and 21 lakh families would be given homes. The BJP also promised a ₹2,000 monthly stipend for youth for two years to support career development. The manifesto outlines a plan for 287,000 government jobs and 500,000 self-employment opportunities to combat unemployment. The proposed UCC Bill aims to unify personal laws on marriage, divorce, inheritance, and property across India, which the BJP has committed to implementing nationwide in its general election manifesto.

Meanwhile, JMM leader Mahua Maji dismissed the BJP’s promises, arguing that previous BJP administrations did not deliver growth or prevent high rates of women’s trafficking. She also mentioned the lack of coal royalty payments from the central government to the state. The Jharkhand assembly elections will take place on November 13 and 20, with results expected on November 23.
