BJP Overtakes JMM in Jharkhand Vote Share; 21 Women Win Seats in Maharashtra Elections

In Maharashtra, the ruling alliance achieved a total of 235 seats, while the MVA secured 49 seats.
The BJP-led Mahayuti alliance secured a resounding victory in the Maharashtra assembly elections, decisively defeating the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) and delivering a significant blow to the Congress in the state. Meanwhile, in Jharkhand, the opposition’s INDIA bloc found solace as the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM)-Congress alliance retained power with a commanding majority.

The BJP emerged as the largest party with 132 seats, followed by Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena with 57 seats and Ajit Pawar’s NCP securing 41. In the opposition, Uddhav Thackeray’s Shiv Sena (UBT) won 20 seats, the Congress 16, and the NCP (SP) 10. The Samajwadi Party claimed 2 seats, while other parties and independents collectively secured 10. The BJP recorded a vote share of 26.77%, ahead of the Congress at 12.42%, Shiv Sena at 12.38%, NCP (SP) at 11.28%, and Shiv Sena (UBT) at 9.96%.

In Jharkhand, the JMM won 34 seats, the Congress 16, RJD 4, and CPI (ML) 2. The BJP secured 21 seats, while the AJSUP and LJPRV each won 1 seat. Overall, the JMM-Congress alliance achieved a combined total of 56 seats, compared to the BJP-led NDA’s 24. Despite securing fewer seats, the BJP’s vote share in Jharkhand was higher at 33.18% compared to JMM’s 23.44%. The Congress recorded a vote share of 15.56%.
