BJP MPs filed a privilege motion against Sonia Gandhi on Monday over her “poor thing” remark about President Droupadi Murmu, as reported by ANI. The controversy arose after Sonia Gandhi referred to President Murmu in this manner during her address at a joint sitting of Parliament on January 31.
In a letter to the Rajya Sabha chairman, the MPs expressed strong disapproval, stating that Sonia Gandhi’s remarks were “unparliamentary, derogatory, and demeaning” toward the President of India, warranting serious scrutiny and disciplinary action.
The MPs accused Sonia Gandhi of displaying an “elitist and anti-tribal mindset,” claiming she has yet to grasp the struggles and sensitivities of a tribal leader.
Highlighting the seriousness of the matter, the MPs urged the chairman to take appropriate disciplinary measures. They emphasized that such action is crucial not only to uphold parliamentary decorum but also to reinforce mutual respect and the foundational principles of democracy.
