Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Priyangu Pandey was reportedly attacked by unidentified individuals in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district during the 12-hour Bangla bandh on Wednesday. Pandey claimed that Trinamool Congress workers fired at him and hurled bombs while he was traveling by car in Bhatpara. “I was on my way to visit our leader Arjun Singh… We had just driven a short distance when a jetting machine from the Bhatpara Municipality blocked the road. As soon as our car stopped, around 50-60 people targeted us, throwing at least seven to eight bombs at my vehicle, followed by six to seven rounds of gunfire… This is a coordinated conspiracy by Trinamool and the police,” Priyangu Pandey told ANI.
BJP leader Arjun Singh also spoke to reporters, stating, “Priyangu Pandey, our party leader, was attacked today… Shots were fired, and the driver was hit. Seven rounds were fired… This happened in the presence of the ACP. There was a deliberate plan to kill Priyangu Pandey… Two people were injured, one of them seriously.” The injured driver was taken to Bhatpara State General Hospital. The attack occurred about three minutes from Pandey’s home when his car slowed down near a municipal truck.
Arjun Singh accused Trinamool leaders Tarun Sau and MLA Somnath Shyam of orchestrating the attack, alleging that the attackers were brought in from Kakinara. BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari shared a video clip on X, which purportedly shows the moment a bullet was fired, and accused, “TMC goons opened fire on BJP leader Priyangu Pandey’s vehicle in Bhatpara. The driver was shot.” Adhikari further claimed, “This is how Mamata Banerjee and the TMC are trying to intimidate BJP. The bandh has been successful, and the public has shown strong support. The toxic alliance of the police and TMC goons won’t be able to frighten BJP.”
