The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday criticised the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) over a standoff between its leaders and Delhi Police outside the chief minister’s residence, labelling it a “clear display of anarchy.” BJP MP Sudhanshu Trivedi, quoted by ANI, stated, “The reality of AAP’s monument of corruption is now evident to the public. Despite the theatrics by AAP MP Sanjay Singh and Delhi Minister Saurabh Bharadwaj, they cannot shield Arvind Kejriwal’s so-called ‘Sheesh Mahal’ or museum of corruption. Today’s actions are a blatant example of anarchy.”
The incident unfolded when Bharadwaj and Singh marched to the CM’s official residence to counter BJP’s allegations regarding the ‘Sheesh Mahal.’ After being stopped by police from entering the property, Bharadwaj explained, “We came to settle the debate of ‘your house vs. mine.’ We proposed showcasing both the PM’s and CM’s residences to the public, which is why we came here.” Denied entry, the AAP leaders sat on a couch outside the residence and engaged in heated exchanges with the police.
Continuing his critique, Trivedi described AAP’s actions as “irresponsible, insane, and anarchic.” Delhi BJP chief Virendra Sachdeva also condemned the leaders, accusing them of staging a “drama” to divert attention from alleged corruption and irregularities in constructing the ‘Sheesh Mahal’ at 6 Flagstaff Road, occupied by Arvind Kejriwal. Sachdeva questioned why AAP hadn’t proposed showcasing the property earlier and pointed out that such actions were inappropriate given the ongoing model code of conduct.
The Delhi assembly elections are scheduled for February 5, with vote counting on February 8.
