The controversy over former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s remarks on Yamuna pollution has intensified since Monday. The AAP leader accused Haryana’s BJP government of ‘poisoning’ the Yamuna water supplied to Delhi, alleging it could harm the city’s residents. He further claimed the Haryana government’s actions were intended to cause harm and shift the blame onto AAP.
In response, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini on Tuesday threatened to file a defamation suit against Kejriwal for his allegations. Speaking to ANI, Saini demanded an immediate apology, stating, “For these blatantly false and disgusting statements, Kejriwal should apologise to the people of Haryana and Delhi, or we will proceed with legal action.”
Saini also criticised Kejriwal, calling him an “Aapda” (disaster) for Delhi, and expressed confidence that, with the support of the city’s residents, the BJP would bring an end to this “Aapda” in upcoming elections.
On Monday, the Haryana CM dismissed Kejriwal’s claims of water scarcity, attributing the problem to Delhi’s poor water distribution system. “He has failed to manage the distribution system in 10 years. It is his habit to make baseless allegations and then evade responsibility,” Saini remarked. He invited Kejriwal to send his chief secretary to inspect water quality at Sonipat, where water enters Delhi, to verify the claims. Saini also accused Kejriwal of focusing on accusations instead of addressing the actual issues, asserting that Delhi residents would hold him accountable in future elections.
