Deepak Kumar, a 29-year-old railway technician, suddenly collapsed during a puja at his residence in Najibabad, Uttar Pradesh, and was initially believed to have suffered a heart attack. However, a mandatory postmortem report revealed he had been strangled, turning the case from a suspected natural death into a murder investigation.
Following the revelation, police arrested his 27-year-old wife, Shivani, alleging that she killed him with the help of an unknown accomplice to claim his railway job after his death. The incident occurred on a Friday evening, and by Sunday, the autopsy results had drastically changed the course of the case.
The couple had been married for less than a year and had a six-month-old son. Deepak’s family described the relationship as troubled. His brother, Piyush, claimed Shivani was hostile towards them and had even physically assaulted their mother. Deepak’s mother, Pushpa, alleged that Shivani murdered her son to secure his government position.
Deepak, originally from Mukrandpur village in Bijnor, had left his job in the CRPF in Manipur to join the railways in March 2023, hoping for a peaceful family life. Sadly, his new beginning was cut short within a year, leaving behind a grieving family and an infant son. Police have registered an FIR and are continuing their investigation.
