Rohtas, Bihar: In a shocking incident, a Class 10 student opened fire on a busy highway in Rohtas district, killing one fellow examinee and critically injuring another. The incident occurred on Thursday evening near the Tata Motors Agency on NH-19 (GT Road) under the jurisdiction of the Dhaudand police station.
According to police, the accused, a student of Dehri High School, had been a victim of relentless bullying for over a year. Seeking revenge, he procured a firearm using money he earned from online stock trading. However, his intended target escaped, and the bullets instead struck two innocent students traveling in an auto-rickshaw.
Victims Identified:
The deceased has been identified as Amit Kumar, while the injured student, Sanjeet Kumar, is currently in critical condition. Both victims belonged to Shambhu Bigha village and were returning home from their Bihar School Examination Board (BSEB) Class 10 exam at Saint Anna High School in Sasaram when the attack occurred.
A Year of Bullying and a Deadly Plan:
Investigations revealed that the accused, aged between 15 and 17 years, had been suffering from continuous bullying and physical assault by a group of aggressive classmates since Class 9. The group, led by one student, frequently tormented him due to his weaker social and financial background.
During his recent trip to Prayagraj for the Maha Kumbh, the accused came in contact with an arms supplier who offered him a pistol and ammunition in exchange for ₹25,000. Determined to take revenge, the accused—who was known for his sharp intellect—engaged in online stock trading and successfully earned the required amount.
Shooting on Exam Day:
On Wednesday, the accused was once again assaulted at the examination center. The next day, he smuggled the weapon to the exam center, hiding it nearby before entering. After the exam, he waited for his bully, intending to shoot him. However, in the chaos, he missed his target, hitting Amit and Sanjeet instead.
Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Raushan Kumar confirmed the details, stating,
“The accused planned the attack in revenge for prolonged bullying. He purchased the weapon using earnings from stock market trading. Unfortunately, his intended target was unharmed, while two innocent students were shot instead,” as per the report stated in the Hindustan Times.
The accused has been taken into custody, and police are investigating how he managed to access a firearm and engage in stock trading as a minor. Authorities are also probing the involvement of the arms dealer he contacted in Prayagraj.
The incident has raised serious concerns about bullying in schools, unregulated online trading for minors, and easy access to illegal firearms.
