Around 60 schools in Bengaluru city received alarming emails early Friday morning, indicating the presence of explosive devices on their premises. However, Bengaluru Police Commissioner B Dayananda has stated that the emails appear to be a hoax, resembling a similar incident in 2022.

Reassuring the public, Dayananda emphasized that there is no immediate cause for panic, and police personnel have launched extensive searches across the city to verify the claims made in the emails.

The email, received at 7:04 am on December 1, purportedly mentioned planting explosives as a retaliatory action for those “martyred on November 26 (26/11)”. Police investigations are ongoing, with specialized units, including sniffer dogs and the Bomb Detection & Disposal Squad, conducting thorough searches at the mentioned schools.

In response to the threat, school managements promptly alerted parents, advising them to take their children home while the police conducted comprehensive searches of the school premises.

This incident echoes previous occurrences in Bengaluru, such as a similar hoax in April 2022 and another instance in January 2023. Investigations into past incidents revealed instances of cyber terrorism and, in one case, the involvement of a Class 10 student aiming to postpone exams.

As a precautionary measure, school managements have communicated with parents, affirming the safety of students within the school premises and pledging further updates if necessary. The police continue to urge calm and assure residents of Bengaluru’s safety amid these incidents.
