The death toll from the Bengaluru building collapse reportedly rose to five on Wednesday morning. Rescue operations, led by NDRF and SDRF teams, have been ongoing since Tuesday evening, with at least 17 people feared trapped under the debris.

Over 10 individuals have been rescued, with five hospitalized due to severe injuries. The rescue teams have been working for 16 hours to clear the debris and locate those still trapped.

Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar visited the site on Tuesday evening and promised action against illegal constructions in Bengaluru. He stated, “I was informed that this was an illegal construction without proper approvals. Strict action will be taken against the builder, contractor, and all involved. I have directed officials to identify and stop such constructions across the city immediately.”

The seven-story building, located in the Hennur area, collapsed around 4 p.m. on Tuesday. Initially, one fatality was reported, and the body of 26-year-old Armaan, who had recently moved to Bengaluru from Bihar, was recovered from the debris.

All those trapped are believed to be construction laborers who lived in the building. The city’s heavy rainfall is also thought to have contributed to the collapse, with Bengaluru recording 186.2 mm of rain, the highest single-day total in 25 years. The northern part of the city was hit hard, with waterlogged roads causing traffic gridlock, and several apartments in Yelahanka submerged due to the deluge.
