A controversy erupted at Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) after a notice claimed that chicken biryani would be replaced with beef biryani for Sunday lunch. The notice, discovered by students at Sir Shah Sulaiman Hall, quickly went viral on social media, sparking widespread reactions. Signed by two “authorised” individuals, the notice stated, “Sunday’s lunch menu has been changed, and beef biryani will be served instead of chicken biryani as per demand.”
In response to the backlash, the AMU administration clarified that the notice contained a “typing error” and confirmed that show-cause notices had been issued to those responsible. “The issue was brought to our attention, and upon review, we found that it was related to the food menu but contained a clear typing error. The notice was promptly withdrawn due to the absence of official signatures, which raised concerns about its authenticity,” the statement read.
The administration further added, “Our provost has issued show-cause notices to the two senior students involved in releasing the notice. We are treating the matter seriously to ensure strict compliance with university guidelines.”
