Oppenheimer may have raised the ire of Hindutva activists due to Cillian Murphy playing J. Robert Oppenheimer and Florence Pugh reciting the Bhagavad Gita in the middle of a sex scene. However, it has surpassed ‘Barbie’ at the box office. According to trade data website SecNilk, ‘Barbie’ is expected to earn around Rs 18.58 crore by the end of Sunday, with a slow start on Friday, earning Rs 5 crore.

First Weekend Earnings in India:

Meanwhile, ‘Oppenheimer’ is projected to earn Rs 49.25 crore during its first weekend, maintaining a collection of around 17 crore in the first three days. This is in stark contrast to the opening box-office returns in North America, where ‘Barbie’ topped the charts.

‘Barbie’ Leads Worldwide:

According to Deadline, “Barbie” is set to gross over an estimated $300 million worldwide by Sunday, while “Oppenheimer” is expected to gross $165.9 million worldwide through Sunday, including Deadline’s $88.9 million internationally. Tom Cruise’s blockbuster ‘Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning – Part One’ continues to be the market leader in India, having collected Rs 98.35 crore until last Friday, July 21.

Ruckus in India over ‘Oppenheimer’:

The objectionable scene featuring Cillian Murphy in filmmaker Christopher Nolan’s recently released film ‘Oppenheimer’ has sparked outrage among people of the Hindu religion. They believe their religious faith has been disrespected, and the makers of the film ‘Oppenheimer’ have insulted the ‘Bhagavad Gita’. Consequently, people are expressing their anger and protesting against the scene.
