The issue of women’s safety in India is increasingly problematic. At a time when thousands of people, particularly doctors, are protesting the lack of women’s safety, another distressing rape case has emerged in Bangalore, Karnataka. A 21-year-old final-year graduate student hailing from another state was violently assaulted by an unknown perpetrator.

The authorities reported that the victim had been drinking at a pub in the Koramangala area. After leaving the pub, she opted for an autorickshaw to travel home, but unfortunately, the vehicle was involved in an accident. In her distressed state, she accepted a ride from a motorcyclist who later took her to HSR Layout, where she was raped by the motorcyclist, police said. The incident allegedly occurred between 1:00 and 1:30 am behind the Girias showroom.

In Bengaluru, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Sarah Fathima has asserted that a final-year undergraduate student from another state was the victim of a sexual assault by an unidentified perpetrator. The student is currently in stable condition, and a case has been filed in connection with the incident.

According to media accounts, one of the survivor’s friends received an emergency message along with her location at a time when the victim’s phone was unreachable. Upon receiving the distress call, a friend of the survivor quickly notified another contact, who rushed to the scene. There, they discovered the survivor in a state of distress. Soon after, yet another friend of the survivor also arrived at the location. According to reports, they described encountering an individual clad only in trousers with visible scratch marks on his face. This individual fled when they attempted to detain him. Following the distressing events, the survivor was promptly transported to a nearby hospital, as informed by a police source.

“We have assembled five teams to conduct the investigation,” asserted Raman Gupta, Additional Commissioner of Police (East Zone). “Rest assured, the culprit will be apprehended imminently.” The survivor has been taken to a private hospital for medical care and is currently in stable condition. The HSR Layout Police have initiated an investigation and have filed a case under Section 376 (punishment for rape) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
