In a remarkable display of badminton prowess, the world No.3 men’s doubles team, comprising Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shetty, stormed into the finals of the Asian Games, bringing India closer to its first-ever badminton gold at the prestigious event. Their exceptional performance saw them outclass Malaysia’s Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, Tokyo bronze medalists and former world champions, with a score of 21-17, 21-12, in a dominant show that lasted 46 minutes.

Notably, this achievement makes Satwik and Chirag the first Indian men’s doubles pair to secure at least a silver medal at the Asian Games. The dynamic duo, who are also reigning Commonwealth Games gold medalists, are set to square off against Korea’s Choi Sol Gyu and Kim Won Ho in the final, scheduled for Saturday.

Throughout the match, Satwik and Chirag unleashed their powerful smashes whenever an opportunity arose, while also showcasing exceptional precision in their shots. The contest was fiercely competitive from the very start, with the two pairs battling neck and neck until the score reached 10-10. Satwik’s powerful smash then gave the Indian duo a crucial one-point advantage at the break.

After the interval, Satwik and Chirag exhibited superior anticipation and extended their lead to 16-10 before securing six game points. Although Malaysia managed to save three game points with a service error from the Indian team and a deceptive stroke from Soh, the eventual victory belonged to the Indians as Aaron sent his forehand into the net.

In the subsequent game, Satwik and Chirag continued to impress, swiftly building an 11-3 lead at the interval. Their flawless coordination, seamless transitions between defense and attack, and Satwik’s exceptional defensive skills complemented by Chirag’s contributions were on full display.

The Indian duo continued to dominate the rallies with their sharp anticipation and interceptions, eventually amassing ten match points. After a net duel, they sealed the victory on their third match point attempt, showcasing their determination and excellence on the badminton court.
