A shocking incident unfolded near the iconic Red Fort, as a 37-year-old auto-driver has been arrested after allegedly killing his live-in partner. The incident, which occurred outside the Yamuna Vihar Hanuman Temple, has left the community in distress.

The suspect, Deepak Kumar, fled on August 1 after his 43-year-old former partner, Pooja, was found dead at her Geeta Colony House in East Delhi. Police indicated that the suspect had left a note expressing his intentions about suicide but did not follow through with the plan due to a lack of courage.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Shahdara) Rohit Kumar Meena disclosed that Deepak Kumar was arrested on Sunday following a tip from a homeless man living around Nigam Bodh Ghat. The homeless man recognized the suspect from a photograph and informed the police investigating the area that they might find Kumar on the streets outside the temple.

Kumar allegedly told the police that he attempted to kill himself by inflicting cuts on his hands using a blade he had bought before killing Pooja. “However, he could not muster up the courage to kill himself,” said DCP Meena.

The police team contacted Kumar’s sister, Sonia. Sonia told the police that Deepak Kumar had called her in the evening to confess that he had killed Pooja and that he was planning to die by suicide. The police found the suicide note left behind by Kumar.

Since Kumar’s phone was switched off and its last location was near the Yamuna, the police focused their investigation near the Yamuna. A crucial breakthrough came through the homeless individual who recognized the photograph, ultimately leading to Kumar’s arrest.
