The Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma convened a meeting on Friday at Lok Seva Bhawan in Guwahati to review the preparations for the forthcoming Republic Day celebrations in Guwahati and Dibrugarh.
During the meeting, it was confirmed that Governor Laxman Prasad Acharya will hoist the national flag for the Republic Day celebrations at Khanapara in Guwahati. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sarma will lead the celebrations in Dibrugarh by hoisting the national flag.
Himanta Biswa Sarma directed the officials of the General Administration Department (GAD) and the Police Administration to ensure comprehensive arrangements for Republic Day, especially in the newly formed co-districts. However, he said that Republic Day events under Kamrup Metropolitan District will be held only in Demoria co-district.

He also directed the Housing and Urban Affairs Department to launch a state-wide cleanliness drive in collaboration with the village burhas (village headmen), voluntary organisations, and other stakeholders.
“Road Past” events will be held in Guwahati, Dibrugarh, and district headquarters across the state on January 25 as a precursor to the Republic Day celebrations.
MLA Taranga Gogoi, Chief Secretary Dr Ravi Kota, Additional Chief Secretary Home AK Tiwari, Special DGP Hameet Singh, Principal Secretary to Chief Minister Dr KK Dwivedi, Commissioner and Secretary GAD MS Manivannan, Guwahati City Police Commissioner Partha Sarathi Mahanta, and other senior officials attended the meeting.
