Arvind Kejriwal Urges Election Commission to Take Action Against BJP Over ‘Attack on AAP Volunteers’
Kejriwal has called on the Election Commission to deploy independent observers in his New Delhi constituency.
Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal wrote to the Election Commission of India on Sunday, alleging attacks on his party workers ahead of the February 5 Delhi assembly election. He urged the poll body to deploy independent observers in his New Delhi constituency and called for the arrest of BJP workers allegedly involved in these incidents, along with the suspension of responsible police officials.
Expressing serious concerns over the alleged harassment of AAP volunteers by BJP workers and the Delhi Police, Kejriwal claimed that a senior party volunteer was unlawfully detained and booked under Section 126 of BNSS 2023 at Tilak Marg Police Station. He asserted that the charges were fabricated, stating that the volunteer had no prior cases against him. Furthermore, he alleged that the detained worker was subjected to a physical assault by police officials to the extent of losing consciousness.
Kejriwal also highlighted other instances of attacks on AAP workers in his constituency. On Saturday, AAP MLA Mohinder Goyal was reportedly assaulted during a public rally in Rohini while interacting with local residents. Additionally, AAP leader and Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh wrote to the EC, alleging that BJP workers attacked AAP members and attempted to obstruct their campaigning efforts in Kejriwal’s constituency.
Kejriwal is contesting the New Delhi assembly seat against the BJP’s Parvesh Verma and Congress’ Sandeep Dikshit. The Delhi assembly election, featuring a three-way contest between the BJP, AAP, and Congress, will be held on February 5, with vote counting scheduled for February 8.
