Arvind Kejriwal Skips ED Summons: Congress Draws Comparison with Gandhi’s

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal skipped around ED summons for questioning in a money laundering case, calling it politically motivated. Meanwhile, Congress urged him to emulate the Gandhi’s example.

Delhi Chief Minister and Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal recently made headlines by skipping a summons from the Enforcement Directorate (ED) for questioning in a money laundering case linked to an alleged liquor policy scam. Kejriwal, in response, termed the summons “vague,” “politically motivated,” and “not sustainable under the law.” He alleged that the summons was sent at the behest of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP).

In light of Kejriwal’s decision, the Congress party seized the opportunity to draw a comparison with its leaders, Sonia and Rahul Gandhi. Abhishek Dutt, a Congress national secretary, pointed to the Gandhis’ willingness to appear before the ED during the “peak Covid season” in 2022 when they were summoned in a money laundering case. He emphasized that the Gandhis joined the investigation because they believed they were right and hadn’t committed any wrongdoing.

Dutt’s comments were framed as a challenge to Kejriwal’s stance, urging him to show the same courage in facing the BJP as the Gandhis did. He underscored that every political party would take its own stand.

The ED’s investigation into the alleged liquor policy scam, which has already led to the arrest of AAP members, has become a significant political issue, with Kejriwal’s refusal to appear for questioning adding another layer of complexity to the case. The ED may issue fresh summons to Kejriwal in the future, pending a decision by senior officials.
