Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Arvind Kejriwal, in a strongly-worded address on Sunday, accused the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) of undermining the electoral process in Delhi. The former Chief Minister claimed that the BJP has been manipulating voter lists as part of a secretive initiative called “Operation Lotus,” which he alleges began on December 15.
Speaking at a press conference, Kejriwal remarked, “The BJP has already conceded defeat in Delhi. They lack a chief ministerial candidate, a clear vision, or credible representatives. To secure victory at any cost, they are resorting to unethical practices, such as tampering with voter lists.” He further asserted that the operation is aimed at influencing the upcoming Delhi state assembly elections.
“In my New Delhi assembly constituency, their so-called ‘Operation Lotus’ has been active since December 15. Within just 15 days, they have filed requests to delete 5,000 votes and add 7,500 new ones. If you’re manipulating nearly 12% of the total voters in a constituency, why even hold elections? This is nothing but a farce in the name of democracy,” Kejriwal added.
These comments come on the heels of allegations made by Delhi Chief Minister Atishi, who accused BJP leaders of bribing voters in the New Delhi constituency, where Kejriwal is set to contest the 2025 elections. Atishi specifically claimed that BJP’s Parvesh Sahib Singh Verma, a former Member of Parliament from West Delhi, was caught distributing cash at his official residence to sway voters.
A criminal complaint has since been filed against Verma at the Barakhamba Police Station in New Delhi, accusing the ex-Lok Sabha MP of offering bribes to influence the election outcome.
