Army Officer Arrested for Murder of Nepali Woman Over Marriage
In a shocking event, an Army officer has been arrested for the murder of a Nepali woman, identified as 30-year-old Shreya Sharma, in a case involving an extramarital affair and a tragic end.
Lieutenant Colonel Ramendu Upadhyay, the accused, is now in police custody. The incident unfolded in West Bengal’s Siliguri, where the officer had recently been transferred from Dehradun. Reports suggest that he had rented a separate flat for his meetings with Shreya, a woman of Nepali origin.
During the interrogation, Ramendu told the police that he had recently been transferred from Dehradun to Siliguri. He had also rented a separate flat for Shreya, where the two used to meet. The officer also told the police that they used to have frequent fights because Shreya wanted to get married to him.
According to the police, Ramendu and Shreya had alcohol together at a restaurant on Saturday. Then, after taking her for a long drive, he parked the vehicle in a remote spot on the outskirts of the city. After that, Shreya was repeatedly hit on the skull with a hammer until she passed away, said Superintendent of Police (City) Sarita Dobha.
After killing the woman, the officer dumped her body and then ran away from the spot. He was arrested on Monday after a woman’s body was discovered with head injuries.
The Army officer was already married and was under pressure to wed the woman, the SP said, adding, “The Army officer has confessed to the crime.”
The police have also recovered the murder weapon, Ramendu’s car, and the clothes he was wearing at that time.
