Rescue teams worked overnight to locate individuals trapped beneath the debris of a four-story under-construction building that collapsed in Sohana village, Mohali, Punjab, on Saturday evening. Early Sunday visuals showed Indian Army and NDRF personnel continuing their operations. The incident claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman from Theog, Himachal Pradesh, who was pulled from the rubble and later succumbed to her injuries at a hospital. Another rescued individual remains critically injured, while three more are feared trapped under the debris.

Police reported that the collapse was caused by excavation work on an adjacent plot, which destabilized the land and brought down the building, which included a gym in its basement. The building’s owners, Parwinder Singh and Gagandeep Singh of Chao Majra village, have been charged under Section 105 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for culpable homicide not amounting to murder.

District authorities set up a control room (0172-2219506) and placed key hospitals, including Civil Hospital, Fortis, Max, and Sohana, on high alert to treat the injured. Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann expressed his sorrow on X, assuring ongoing rescue efforts, pledging action against the responsible parties, and appealing for public cooperation.
