In the aftermath of a terrorist attack on an Army convoy in Poonch, Jammu and Kashmir, leading to the deaths of four soldiers, the Indian Army has initiated a comprehensive probe involving a Brigadier-level officer. The investigation aims to address both the civilian deaths reported in Poonch’s Baffliaz area and the recurring incidents of casualties among Army personnel in terrorist attacks within the officer’s jurisdiction.

The probe follows an ambush by heavily armed terrorists on two Army vehicles near Dhatyar Morh last Thursday. The People’s Anti-Fascist Front (PAFF), reportedly linked to Jaish-e-Mohammed, claimed responsibility for the attack, sharing images on social media showcasing sophisticated US-made M4 carbine assault rifles used in the assault.

Aerial surveillance and intensified ground combing operations, particularly in the forest belt of Dera Ki Gali and Bafliyaz, were promptly initiated in response to the terrorist attack. Subsequent to the attack on soldiers, three civilians were found dead under mysterious circumstances in Poonch’s Baffliaz area on Friday.

In light of these developments, the Army is taking disciplinary action against some officers and reorganizing the postings of others. Allegations of custodial torture by the families of the deceased civilians have further intensified the scrutiny on the Army’s conduct in the region.

Army Chief General Manoj Pande visited the Poonch sector on Monday, urging commanders to conduct operations in the “most professional manner” and demonstrating resolve in the face of challenges. The Chief of Army Staff (CoAS) emphasized the importance of maintaining steadfastness in the ongoing anti-terror operations in the region.

As the investigation unfolds, the Army’s actions and the evolving situation in Poonch will be closely monitored for further developments.
