Amit Shah, Union Home Minister and Cooperation Minister, on Wednesday inaugurated and laid the foundation stone of several development projects worth around ₹241 crore in Gujarat’s Mansa. The event, organised by the Home Ministry, was attended by Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel and other prominent dignitaries.
In his address, Shah lauded Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visionary efforts in tackling the state’s water crisis challenges during his tenure as Gujarat Chief Minister. He recalled that groundwater, which was once available at a depth of only 1,200 feet, became more easily available due to Modi prioritising the Narmada project. Shah said the initiative ensured reliable water supply in regions like Kutch and Saurashtra.
Amit Shah said, “Prime Minister Modi overcame many hurdles to successfully implement the Narmada project, which now provides water to every household in Gujarat. His efforts include the construction of a canal from Bharuch to Khavda and conservation of rainwater through the construction of over 9,000 ponds.”
Highlighting Modi’s tenure as Gujarat chief minister, he mentioned programmes such as the Sujalam-Sufalam Yojana, which facilitated water transfer from Kadana to Deesa and ensured year-round flow in the Sabarmati river through the construction of 14 dams. He praised the significant improvement in groundwater levels and the elimination of fluoride contamination in drinking water for residents of north Gujarat.
He also emphasised the cultural and spiritual significance of the Maha Kali Mata Temple in Ambode, a 500-year-old site recently renovated under the Pavitra Yatradham initiative. He encouraged Chief Minister Patel to further enhance the temple complex by expanding the barrage, constructing a water-filled pond, and adding boating and walking facilities. Shah envisioned the site as a serene spiritual destination, especially during the evening aarti ceremonies.
During the event, he inaugurated major projects such as the Mansa Circuit House, a security wall near Neelkanth Mahadev, a check dam at Badarpura village, and classroom blocks at Charda and Delwada villages. Additionally, he laid the foundation stone of 23 other projects, including a barrage on the Sabarmati river at Ambod village.
According to him, these projects will greatly benefit the local communities, especially farmers, and contribute to the development of the region. He expressed confidence in the Gujarat government’s efforts to transform the Ambod temple into a major pilgrimage centre, which will enrich both spiritual and economic opportunities for the region.
