Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in the UAE on 13 February 2024 for a two-day visit dedicated to diplomatic and significant negotiations. Modi and UAE’s President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan held several bilateral meetings to discuss the strategic partnership between the two countries. The ties between both nations have been cordial, often collaborating on several projects related to technology, infrastructure, and energy conversation. UAE is also among India’s 3rd largest trading partner and 7th largest investor.
Here are the major points emphasized during the visit:
- Eight agreements were exchanged between Modi and UAE President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan during their meeting. These agreements included an Intergovernmental Framework Agreement between India and the UAE, an MoU on cooperation in the field of trade, and a bilateral investment treaty.
- Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed gratitude to the UAE for the establishment of the first Hindu Temple in Abu Dhabi, which would be inaugurated by Modi on 14 February 2024. The Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha (BAPS) Mandir has been under construction since 2019 on a 27-acre land.
- Jaywan Card is just one part of a larger agreement between the two countries to link their instant payment platforms (UPI in India and AANI in the UAE) and domestic debit/credit card networks. It would facilitate easier transactions in each other’s countries and enhance financial cooperation.
- PM Modi will be felicitated as the guest of honor at the World Government Summit in Dubai 2024.
- While addressing the gathering at the ‘Ahlan Modi’ event, he spoke a few Arabic sentences to demonstrate a cultural link between the countries.
- UAE’s highest civilian award, the “Order of Zayed,” was also awarded to Narendra Modi.
“This is the time to hail the friendship between India and the UAE. In this historic stadium, every heartbeat echoes the same sentiment – Long live Bharat-UAE friendship,” Narendra Modi said at the Ahlan Modi event at Zayed Sports City Stadium, which was attended by over 3.5 million people.
