The rescue thriller “Mission Raniganj,” starring Akshay Kumar, is set to hit screens on October 6. The upcoming film is inspired by a real-life incident at the Raniganj coalfield and inspired by the heroic act of Late Shri Jaswant Singh Gill, who led Bharat’s coal mine rescue mission, said the makers.
Akshay Kumar, a prominent figure in the Indian film industry, recently shared a series of posters from his forthcoming project, “Mission Raniganj – The Great Bharat Rescue,” on his social media platforms. This film derives its narrative from a genuine event that transpired at the Raniganj coalfield and is a testament to the remarkable valor of Late Shri Jaswant Singh Gill, the leader of Bharat’s coal mine rescue mission.
In light of an ongoing online discourse surrounding the potential renaming of India to Bharat, initiated by the government ahead of Parliament’s special session, the title of Akshay Kumar’s movie has been modified. Previously known as ‘Mission Ranigan: The Great Indian Rescue,’ the film is now titled ‘Mission Raniganj: The Great Bharat Rescue.’
Akshay Kumar expressed his sentiment in the caption of his post, saying, “Heroes don’t wait for medals to do what’s right! Watch the story of Bharat’s true hero with #MissionRaniganj in cinemas on 6th October. Teaser out tomorrow!”
However, as the posters gained widespread attention, observant netizens noted a noticeable flaw in one of them, deeming it to be the result of “poor editing.” Many individuals pointed out that the third poster appeared to involve excessive copy-pasting, as it featured the same coal miners repeatedly placed around Akshay. One user commented, “Kya editing hai bhai,” while another humorously added, “Someone is about to get fired!”
According to a statement issued by the production house Pooja Entertainment, it was emphasized that the heroic Jaswant Singh Gill played a pivotal role in the successful rescue mission in Bharat, against all odds. He was instrumental in saving all 64 surviving miners trapped inside a flooded coal mine in Raniganj in November 1989. Jaswant Singh Gill, a resident of Amritsar, received numerous accolades for his extraordinary bravery in 1989. Sadly, Gill passed away in 2019 at the age of 80.
The cast of “Mission Raniganj” also includes Parineeti Chopra, Kumud Mishra, Pavan Malhotra, Ravi Kishan, Varun Badola, Dibyendu Bhattacharya, Rajesh Sharma, Virendra Saxena, Shishir Sharma, Ananth Mahadevan, Jameel Khan, Sudhir Pandey, Bachan Pachera, Mukesh Bhatt, and Omkar Das Manikpur. The film is directed by Tinu Suresh Desai, who previously helmed Akshay Kumar’s acclaimed movie, “Rustom.”
