On Friday in the early morning, a special Indian Air Force aircraft took off for Kerala, containing the mortal remains of the 45 Indian citizens who perished in the tragic Kuwaiti building fire. The corpses arrived at the Cochin International Airport this morning, around 10:30 a.m.

Along on the ride was Union Minister Kirti Vardhan Singh, who had verified the aircraft’s takeoff. Shortly after the plane touched down, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan also showed up at the Cochin International Airport.

Later, the coffins were moved outside the airport while relatives awaited the return of their loved ones’ bodies following the tragic Kuwaiti fire.

Earlier, some 35 ambulances and almost as many police cars were parked outside Kochi International Airport’s import cargo terminal.

The bodies of 45 Indians and three Filipino nationals who perished in the terrible fire tragedy in a block housing foreign workers were recognized by Kuwaiti authorities on Thursday.

Kuwait has promised to look into the issue as soon as possible and to facilitate efforts to return the victims’ mortal remains home.

In the southern city of Mangaf, a seven-story building housing 196 migrant workers caught fire on Wednesday, leaving at least 49 foreign workers dead and 50 injured.

According to the Kuwait Fire Force, an electrical short circuit was the cause of the fatal fire. The agency said in a statement that a field investigation of the location and the structure where the fire started yesterday led to the decision.

In the meantime, the bodies of those killed in the tragic fire incident in the Mangaf district of southern Kuwait were being subjected to DNA testing by Kuwaiti officials.
