An Air India Express flight from Dubai, with 189 passengers on board, received a bomb threat and made an emergency landing in Jaipur.
Air India Express flight IX-196, traveling from Dubai to Jaipur with 189 passengers on board, received a bomb threat through an email at 12:45 AM on Saturday.
An Air India Express flight (IX-196) from Dubai to Jaipur, carrying 189 passengers, received a bomb threat via email at 12:45 AM on Saturday, according to Jaipur Airport Police SHO Sandeep Basera. The plane landed at Jaipur International Airport at 1:20 AM, where security forces conducted a thorough inspection but found nothing suspicious, as reported by ANI. This marks the sixth consecutive day of bomb threats targeting domestic airlines. Authorities have suspended or blocked around 10 social media accounts linked to these threats, according to reports.
The Air India Express incident occurred shortly after a London-bound Vistara flight from Delhi was diverted to Frankfurt on Friday due to a bomb threat. A spokesperson for the airline confirmed that the flight landed safely in Frankfurt, where mandatory security checks were being conducted. Once cleared, the flight will continue its journey to London.
“Vistara flight UK17 from Delhi to London on October 18, 2024, received a security threat on social media. Following protocol, all relevant authorities were informed, and as a precaution, the pilots diverted the flight to Frankfurt,” the spokesperson said. Meanwhile, Akasa Air’s flight QP 1366, scheduled to fly from Bengaluru to Mumbai on Friday, also faced a security alert just before takeoff.
“Following safety and security protocols, all passengers were deplaned, and local authorities carried out necessary procedures. We apologize for the inconvenience,” the airline posted on X. In recent days, about 40 flights operated by Indian carriers have received bomb threats, all of which turned out to be hoaxes.
The civil aviation ministry is considering stricter regulations to prevent such hoax threats, including placing offenders on the no-fly list. On Thursday, bomb threats were received by four Air India Express flights, two Vistara flights, and one IndiGo flight. Air India confirmed that “a number of” its flights received hoax threats but did not disclose specific numbers. Civil aviation minister K Rammohan Naidu stated that the ministry is looking into amending regulations to ensure strict action. He also noted that the current threats appear to be from individuals, minors, or pranksters rather than part of a larger conspiracy.
