Agra Man Drinks Mosquito Repellent After Breakup, Shares Incident in Online Video
The man from Agra, Uttar Pradesh, posted an Instagram video where he recorded himself drinking the mosquito repellent on camera.
A man in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, reportedly attempted suicide by drinking mosquito repellent on Friday after experiencing depression following a breakup, according to police sources cited by Navbharat Times. He was promptly taken to the hospital, where he is currently under treatment. The man recorded himself on Instagram, drinking the repellent on camera. In the video, he takes a sip and, though visibly uncomfortable, drinks two more gulps, clutching his stomach in pain. Police were alerted after the video was posted, and officers quickly arrived at his location around 3:30 a.m. on Saturday. They broke down his door, rescued him, and transported him to the hospital, effectively saving his life.
The Trans-Yamuna Police Station received an alert from the Police Commissioner’s media cell about the Instagram video. Acting promptly, constables Durgashankar and Manoj Kumar reached his rented room in Sati Nagar, Naraich, where he was living while preparing for competitive exams. After receiving no response at the door, they forced entry, found him in distress, and took him to the hospital, where his condition has since stabilized. Police confirmed that he had ingested a mosquito-repellent chemical.
Originally from outside Agra, the man had been staying in the Trans-Yamuna Colony’s Sati Nagar Naraich area and was reportedly distressed for days after a breakup. In another incident, police rescued a woman on October 18 in Lucknow who had ingested poison. The 26-year-old from Kalyanpur in Kanpur Nagar had previously accused a PAC constable of sexual assault last year. She was found en route to Hazratganj and taken to the civil hospital for emergency care. The police confirmed she had filed an FIR against the constable for rape and other charges under Section 376 of the IPC.
