In a move that could strain opposition unity ahead of the Delhi elections, the ruling Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) on Thursday threatened to consult other INDIA bloc members about expelling the Congress. AAP’s frustration stems from remarks made by Delhi Congress leaders, including Ajay Maken, who targeted the party. Addressing a press conference, AAP leader Sanjay Singh announced that his party would urge the INDIA alliance to remove Congress if no action is taken against Maken. Earlier reports suggested AAP was irked by a Congress complaint accusing Arvind Kejriwal of “misleading and deceiving” the public with promises of “non-existent” welfare schemes.

On Wednesday, the Delhi Congress released a 12-point “white paper” criticizing AAP and the BJP for unfulfilled promises and mismanagement in areas such as pollution, civic services, and law and order. AICC treasurer Ajay Maken, at a press briefing, attacked AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of failing to establish the Janlokpal despite riding to power on the anti-corruption movement. “If there’s one word to describe Arvind Kejriwal, it’s Farziwal,” Maken said while unveiling the document titled “Mauka Mauka, Har Baar Dhoka.”

Maken went further, calling Kejriwal “the king of fraud in the country” and accusing the AAP and BJP governments of deceit. Responding to these allegations, AAP’s Sanjay Singh accused the Congress of aiding the BJP’s efforts to win the Delhi polls, claiming Ajay Maken was “reading from the BJP’s script.” Singh also alleged that Congress’s candidate list for the Delhi elections seemed designed to hurt AAP and demanded that Congress act against Maken within 24 hours for calling Kejriwal “anti-national.”
