The state cabinet of Andhra Pradesh, headed by Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy, has decided to conduct an extensive survey based on caste. The principal aim is to accurately define the population comprising lower socioeconomic classes to provide them with socio-economic advantages.

Following the cabinet meeting, State Information and Public Relations Minister C Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna briefed reporters, emphasizing the significance of this survey. The thorough caste survey is anticipated to consider a number of variables, such as people’s socioeconomic status, education with an emphasis on career prospects, and the distribution of various castes within society.

The results of this survey will help build a database that will identify the weaker segments of society, allowing the government to administer welfare programs and offer financial assistance.

Furthermore, the cabinet recognized that the survey would aid in the identification of individuals who may have been inadvertently excluded from the implementation of welfare schemes. This valuable insight will aid in the planning of poverty alleviation initiatives and human resource development programs, ultimately working to reduce societal economic disparities.

Similarly, the cabinet approved a public awareness campaign about the YSR Aarogyasri program, which aims to inform people about the availability of free medical treatment for various diseases at listed hospitals, as well as how to download the Aarogyasri App. The cabinet also approved the State Investment Promotion Board’s (SIPB) approval of new investments totaling ₹19,037 crore. These investments are anticipated to create 69,565 jobs. Also, AP Industrial and Infrastructure Corporation-managed lands have been set aside for industrial use on plots smaller than 50 acres and for the construction of government offices in different districts.
