On Friday, on the 25th anniversary of Kargil Vijay Diwas, Prime Minister Modi paid tribute to the heroes of the 1999 war in Ladakh. He also visited the Kargil War Memorial. In the address of about 20 minutes, the PM talked about Pakistan, terrorism, Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, the Agneepath scheme, and opposition.

PM said,” Pakistan wants to remain in the news through a proxy war. They learned nothing from their history. In the past, all his efforts regarding terrorism had failed. From where I am standing, my voice must be reaching the masters of terror. Their plans will never succeed.”

The Prime Minister said, “Army reforms are our priority.  The Agneepath Yojana is part of it. There were discussions in the Parliament on making the army young for decades. This topic was raised in many committees, but the will to make this change was not shown earlier.”

The mentality of some people was that the army meant saluting the leaders and doing parades. For us, the army means the security of 140 crore countrymen and a guarantee of peace. We have made this a reality through the Agneepath scheme. Unfortunately, some people have made such a sensitive topic a subject of politics.

Layed the foundation stone of the world’s highest tunnel

After paying homage at the Kargil War Memorial, Prime Minister Modi conducted the first virtual blast for the Shinkun La Tunnel Project in Ladakh. This is the world’s highest tunnel. Its height above sea level is about 15,800 feet. It will connect the Lahaul Valley of Himachal Pradesh to the Jaskar Valley of Ladakh.

This 4.1 KM long tunnel will be built on Nimu-Padum-Darcha road. It will cost about Rs 1681 crore to build it. Border Roads Organization (BRO) will build it in about two years. There is snow in the area for four to five months of the year. After the tunnel is built, movement here will be possible throughout the year.

Shinkun La Tunnel will be a twin-tube double-lane tunnel. There will be cross passages after every 500 meters. It will have facilities like a supervisory control and data acquisition system, a mechanical ventilation system, a firefighting system, and communication technology.

8 Big things from PM Modi’s speech

1. On Pakistan and terrorism

India was making efforts for peace before the Kargil war. In return, Pakistan showed its distrustful face. But lie and terror were defeated in front of truth. Whatever efforts Pakistan made in the past, it had to face defeat.

Today when I am speaking from a place where the masters of terror can hear my voice directly. I want to tell these supporters of terrorism that their nefarious plans will never succeed.

2. On Agneepath Scheme

I praise the Indian Army for reforms in the defense sector. There has been discussion in Parliament for decades on making the forces young. All this has happened through Agneepath Yojana.

Increasing age has been increasing the worries of all of us. This topic came up in many committees. But the will for this change was not shown earlier.

Agneepath Yojana will increase the strength of the country. Capable youth will also come forward to serve the country. Even in the private sector, firewarriors were given priority.

3. Target on opposition regarding the Agneepath scheme, One Rank One Pension

Unfortunately, some people have made the Agneepath Scheme a subject of politics. These are the same people who wanted the army to never get modern fighter planes. I wonder what has happened to the thinking of some people. They are spreading the illusion that the government has brought a scheme to save pension money.

I want to ask such people whether the person who will be recruited today will have to pay a pension today itself. When pension has to be given after 30 years, Modi will be 105 years old. Then will there be a Modi government? But for me the country is supreme, not the party. The history of those who are misleading the youth of the country is testimony to the fact that they do not care about the soldiers.

Those who showed the dream of a One Rank One Pension by showing Rs 500 crore are raising questions about the Agneepath Scheme. Where is Rs 500 crore and where is Rs 1.25 lakh crore, so many lies. These are the same people who did not give bulletproof jackets to the soldiers deployed on the border.

4. On defense exports and production

25 percent of defense research has also been reserved for the private sector. The result is that defense production has increased to more than 1.25 lakh crores.

Once upon a time, we used to import weapons, today we are becoming exporters. We have made a list of 5 thousand weapons and decided that they will not be imported from outside.

5. On reforms in the army

Today’s global circumstances have changed from before. The army should also be modern in its working style and system, hence the country has been feeling the need for major changes in the defense sector for decades.

The army itself was demanding, but earlier it was not given that much importance. In the last ten years, we made these reforms our priority. Due to these, the army has become capable and self-reliant.

6. On development projects of Ladakh

Indus Central University is being built in Ladakh. The work of connecting the entire Ladakh with the 4G network is also going on. The work of the 13 km long Zojila Tunnel is also going on. With its construction, there will be all-weather connectivity on the National Highway. Have taken up challenging tasks in the border areas also. Border Road Organization has completed more than 330 projects in the last 3 years. This includes projects like the development of Ladakh and Sela Tunnel in the Northeast.

In the last 5 years, we have increased the budget of Ladakh to Rs 6 thousand crores. Has increased by 6 times. This money is being used for the development of the people of Ladakh and to increase the facilities here. The scenario is changing in Ladakh in every direction be it education, employment, or power supply. For the first time, work is being done here with holistic planning. Due to the Jal Jeevan Mission, water is reaching 90 percent of the houses here.

7. On development projects of Jammu and Kashmir

Tazia has come out in Srinagar after 35 years. Our heaven on earth is rapidly moving in the direction of peace and harmony. A new stream of development is flowing in Ladakh also. The work of Shinkun La Tunnel has started. With this, Ladakh will remain connected to the country in every season throughout the year.

After a few days, on 5th August, it will be 5 years since Article 370 was abolished. Jammu and Kashmir is talking about a new future today. Jammu and Kashmir are being recognized for hosting an important meeting like G20. Rapid development is taking place with the development of infrastructure.

8. Mentioned about the people of Kargil trapped in Iran

I remember during the time of Corona, many of our people from Kargil were stuck in Iran. I made a lot of effort to bring them back. They were brought from Iran and made to stay in Jaisalmer.

After the report was found satisfactory, it was taken to his home. We are satisfied that many lives were saved. The Government of India is making efforts to increase the facilities and ease of living of the people here.

Army Chief General Upendra Dwivedi reached Kargil on July 25 to attend the silver jubilee celebrations of Kargil Vijay Diwas. Along with him, General VP Malik, who was the Army Chief during the Kargil War, also attended the ceremony. General Malik also met the 1999 war veterans and their families at Lamochen View Point in Dras. Earlier, the Army Chief took stock of the security situation at Chinar Corps and LoC.
