Swami Avimukteshwaranand, while addressing the issue of the new temple in New Delhi, had claimed that there was a ‘gold scam’ in the existing Kedarnath Temple, which had not been investigated. He said, “After doing a scam there, now Kedarnath will be built in Delhi? And then there will be another scam. 228 Kg of gold is missing from Kedarnath. No inquiry has started. Who is responsible for this?”

The opposition parties are making this allegation a big issue and are attacking the BJP governments at the Center and the State.

The temple trust president, Ajendra Ajay, said, ”I respect Swami Avimukteshwaranand. Still, he keeps holding press conferences throughout the day, stoking controversy and creating sensationalism. Being in the news is a habit of Swami Avimukteshwaranand.”

BKTC President said that his claim of gold missing in Kedarnath Temple is very unfortunate and a part of the Congress Agenda, and urged Swami to stop hurting the dignity of the Kedarnath temple.

“I urge and challenge Swami Avimukteshwaranand to bring the facts and evidence forward. He should go to the authorities, present the evidence, and demand an investigation If he doesn’t trust the government and its officials, he should approach the Supreme Court and the High Court and file a PIL if he has evidence,” he added.

Ajendra Ajay said, “The state government and the temple committee have made no contribution to getting the sanctum sanctorum of Kedarnath temple gold-plated. The donor who made the temple gold delivered the gold to Kedarnath temple through his jeweler and the same gold is installed in the sanctum sanctorum, whose weight is about 23 kg. The weight of the copper plates installed for support is around 1000 Kg. This donated sanctum sanctorum of Badrinath temple has been made gold-plated.”

On July 15, Swami Avimukteshwaranand sparked a row after he claimed that he opposed the building of a symbolic Kedarnath temple in the national capital.

“There cannot be a symbolic Kedarnath. 12 Jyotirlingas have been mentioned in the Shiv Puran, along with their name and location. There are political reasons behind this; political people are entering our religious places,” Swami Avimukteshwaranand said.

Kedarnath is one of the four sacred Hindu shrines of the Char Dham, including Badrinath, Gangotri, and Yumonotri. On July 10, Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami laid the foundation stone for a new Kedarnath temple in New Delhi, leading to several priests in the state protesting.
