20-Year-Old Arrested for Possessing Country-Made Pistol in Chandigarh

The crime branch of the Chandigarh Police has arrested a 20-year-old man, identified as Joban Kumar, a resident of Dhanas village, for carrying a firearm. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by Inspector Satvinder Singh, Station House Officer, nabbed Kumar in Sector 25 on June 20.
During frisking, the police recovered a country-made pistol and a live cartridge from his possession. An FIR has been registered under Sections 25, 54, and 59 of the Arms Act at the Crime Branch police station.
According to preliminary investigations, Kumar had procured the firearm online for ₹8,000 from someone in Nukur, Saharanpur (Uttar Pradesh). The accused revealed that he had purchased the weapon due to enmity with some local individuals.
Kumar was initially sent to two-day police remand and has now been sent to 14-day judicial custody by the court. The police are further investigating the source of the firearm and the circumstances surrounding its purchase.
