Meerut: A 17-year-old girl allegedly died by suicide at her home in the Khurja area of Bulandshahr district, police reported on Sunday.
The deceased, identified as Anjali Rani, was a Class 12 student at Mahadevi Ayodhyanath Kanya Inter College. She reportedly took the drastic step a day after the board exam results were declared, in which she was said to have failed two subjects.
According to her brother Tanishq, Anjali had been anxiously awaiting the results, which were released on Friday. “She checked her result in the afternoon and returned home in tears. When we asked her what happened, she said she had failed and then went to her room,” he said.
“A short while later, we heard her screaming and discovered sulfas tablets near her. She was losing consciousness, so we rushed her to the hospital, but she passed away on Saturday,” Tanishq added.
Anjali reportedly scored 15 out of 100 in sociology and 30 out of 100 in general Hindi, with an overall score of 211 out of 500 in her Class 12 exams.
Police stated that the family declined any legal action. “They refused a post-mortem and did not permit us to initiate any police proceedings,” said SHO Khurja, Rajpal Tomar.
