17 People Killed in Storm That Swept Across Western Uttar Pradesh

Meerut/Agra: A fierce storm hit several districts of western Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday evening, killing at least 17 people and injuring many others. The storm brought down trees, electric poles, walls, and caused widespread damage to infrastructure.
In Bijnor, a 32-year-old head constable of the UP Police lost his life when a tree fell on his motorcycle. In another tragic incident, Richhpal (45) and his 9-year-old daughter Rani died after a wall collapsed on them.
Meerut reported two fatalities: Amit Kumar (30) and Naseem Khan (35) were killed in separate incidents when trees fell on them in the Daurala and Lisadi Gate areas. Amit’s son sustained injuries but survived.
In Badaun, Anita Devi (36) died when a section of her roof caved in while she slept. Bulandshahr and Saharanpur together recorded four deaths: Khaleel Ahmed (35) was crushed by a collapsing wall, and Ravi Kumar (16) died after being struck by a falling tree. In Deoband, lightning killed Anil Kumar (65) and Ankit Kumar (28).
In Aligarh, Manish Sharma, a senior Samajwadi Party member, died after a wall fell on him. In Firozabad, a 35-year-old woman, Munisha Devi, succumbed to injuries after being struck by a flying tin sheet.
Etah district reported multiple fatalities. Vivek Pratap Singh (35), a biodiesel plant owner, and his colleague Pushpendra (45) were killed when a tin roof collapsed. In Jalesar, a wall and tin sheet collapse injured eight people, including three children. Maharaj Singh (59) died en route to a hospital after being hit by a metal sheet, while Surendra (23) died from injuries sustained when his house’s wall fell. Another unidentified person also died in the district, according to police.
Agra experienced strong winds that uprooted trees and poles. Part of the railing of Ambedkar Bridge over the Yamuna fell into the river. Meerut’s Nauchandi Fair was severely hit, with tin roofs, swings, and temporary stalls destroyed.
Other districts, including Muzaffarnagar, Hathras, and Saharanpur, also reported significant infrastructure damage.
