An explosion has occurred at Escientia Advanced Sciences Pvt. Ltd., a pharmaceutical company’s facility situated in the Atchutapuram Special Economic Zone in Andhra Pradesh. Tragically, the explosion resulted in the loss of at least 17 lives and left 41 individuals injured. The incident occurred at around 2:15 p.m. during lunchtime, preventing a potentially catastrophic disaster. Visuals from the scene portray thick smoke surging and shrouding the adjacent villages in a swirling haze. The District Collector, Vijaya Krishnan, emphasized that the incident did not result from a reactor blast, instead suggesting that it might have been caused by an electricity-related fire.

The plant currently has around 380 employees who work in two shifts. In response to the fire, six fire engines have been dispatched to extinguish the flames, and the National Disaster Response Force has been summoned to assist with rescue operations. The Collector has reported that 13 individuals who were previously trapped inside the unit have been successfully rescued.

Situated on the expansive 40-acre campus of the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, Escientia’s facilities are strategically located for efficient operations and future growth.
